From The Ashes of War (Từ Tro Tàn của Chiến Tranh)

FROM THE ASHES OF WAR is a historical documentary tracing the lives, sacrifices, and enduring losses of the military personnel, civil servants and citizens of the Republic of Vietnam during the twenty years before - and the fifty years after - the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. Drawing on testimony from living witnesses, former soldiers and officials and analysis by Vietnamese and American scholars, the film recounts the political and military developments that culminated in the collapse of the South Vietnamese government.

The documentary reconstructs the experiences of South Vietnamese soldiers and officials who endured profound hardship, including those sent to the so‑called “re-education camps,” where many perished in captivity. It also portrays the suffering, discrimination and displacement faced by their families under the post‑war regime, as well as the heavy price paid by the South Vietnamese people in their pursuit of freedom.

FROM THE ASHES OF WAR captures a defining chapter of modern Vietnamese history, highlighting the resilience, aspirations and contributions of Vietnamese communities abroad and their enduring hope for a future Vietnam that is free, just and prosperous.

TỪ TRO TÀN CHIẾN TRANH là phim tài liệu lịch sử ghi lại cuộc đời và những mất mát của quân, dân, cán chính Việt Nam Cộng Hòa trong hai mươi năm trước và năm mươi năm sau ngày Sài Gòn sụp đổ 30 tháng 4 năm 1975. Qua nhân chứng sống, các cựu quân nhân và viên chức, cùng các phân tích của học giả Việt Nam và Hoa Kỳ, bộ phim trình bày những diễn biến chính trị và quân sự dẫn đến sự sụp đổ của Việt Nam Cộng Hòa.

Bộ phim dựng lại những câu chuyện bi thương mà quân, dân, cán chính miền Nam đã trải qua, trong đó có nhiều người đã chết trong trại tù “cải tạo”. Bộ phim đồng thời khắc họa nỗi đau, sự kỳ thị và mất mát mà gia đình họ phải gánh chịu dưới chế độ cộng sản, cũng như cái giá quá lớn mà nhiều người dân miền Nam phải trả trên hành trình tìm kiếm tự do.
